The fundamental aspects for preventing gum disease, caring for your mouth and maintaining good oral health are:
- Tooth brushing.
- Dental floss.
- Mouth rinses such as mouthwashes or elixirs.
- Use of a water flosser, especially for patients with orthodontic appliances and implants.
- A visit to the dental clinic at least every 12 months.

How to brush each area
Brushing the upper teeth
The correct way to brush the upper teeth is from top to bottom, from the gum to the tooth. Place the brush head horizontally, at a 45º angle to the vertical axis of the teeth, so that the bristles sit on the junction between the tooth and the gum.
Brushing the lower teeth
The correct way to brush the lower teeth is likewise from the gum to the tooth, that is, from bottom to top.
Brushing the biting surfaces
The biting (occlusal) surfaces of the lower teeth are brushed correctly with short movements, in a horizontal direction.
